Investigations in Balbithan Wood, Kintore, Aberdeenshire, were undertaken as part of a landscape survey and evaluation to compare with other areas in Kintore, which produced large numbers of roundhouses. At Balbithan 27 surviving hut circles and 217 cairns were located, and eight prehistoric hut circles and seven cairns were sampled, their radiocarbon dates clustering around the middle Bronze Age. Artefacts included Mesolithic and Neolithic lithics and Neolithic pottery.

Key words: Clearance cairns, hut circles, prehistory, middle Bronze Age, lithic artefacts, Neolithic pottery.
